Describe the two reasons for the fall of the Minoan

at least 7 sentences please
Ivenika [448]
Evidence suggests that the Minoans disappeared so suddenly because of the massive volcanic eruption in the Santorini Islands. Excavations there have uncovered Akrotiri, a Minoan town which was buried in this eruption, one of the largest in recorded history. The eruption was only 70 miles from Crete, the center of the Minoan civilization. Recent evidence suggests that the Santorini eruption was up to 10 times more powerful than the eruption of Krakatoa in 1883. It caused massive climatic disruption and the blast was heard over 3000 miles away.

We know now that the Santorini eruption and the collapse of the volcanic cone into the sea caused tsunamis which devastated the coasts of Crete and other Minoan coastal towns. Radiocarbon dating shows that a large tsunamis Crete at the same time as the Santorini eruption.

Write about your initial impressions of the Mongol Empire.
Pepsi [2]

The Mongol Empire which took place between the 13th and 14th centuries, became of the greatest and largest land empire in human history. Initiated in 1206 under the rule of Genghis Khan, this empire rapidly grew and spread throughout most of Asia and even parts of Europe. One of the biggest carachteristics of this empire, and especially its ruler, was how organized and well developed it became and this is because Khan did not believe in gaining power through birthright, but rather achievements. Thus, not only politically but also socially and militarily, the mongols developed into a structure where people rose not due to their ancestry, but their accomplishments. This, to me, was the most notorious feature. Also, the Great Khan, as Genghis Khan was called, believed in a system of rewards and punishments and was known by his people as a brutal but also fair ruler, which helped this empire to also evolve into much more than just savage military gains.

It is also true that the mongols were known for the destruction they wreaked on the lands they conquered and they were greatly feared. It was this fear that pushed the Chinese empire to build the Great Wall, but the Mongols, and especially Khan, were open to learning and desired it, which made them flexible to accepting new ways of thinking, acting and behaving. This is why, and through an oppenness towards trade, freedom of religion and belief and a desire for knowledge, the mongol empire also developed into one of the most culturally advanced and there was a lot of contact, especially with European territories and culture. This unfortunately changed after the death of Genghis Khan, as his heirs were unable to maintain the level-headedness of their original leader.

23. Write an essay where you explain how Oscar Wilde uses symbolism and irony to make his
Lorico [155]

Answer:

The importance of being earnest by Oscar Wilde uses satire to ridicule the cultural norms of marriage love and mind-set which were very rigid during the Victorian Age. Because it uses satire to ridicule these instituitions, it shows the deviance from the social order by making ridiculous the ideas of standards, morals and manners. By trying to correct the flaws of the characters in this play, this piece also serves as a great form of critiscim. “The play really owes something to the restoration comic tradition.”

Wilde was a master at the art of turning the English language around to fit his sarcastic themes and in this play he accomplished that to a high level. The title of this piece is even a play-on-word “Earnest” which can mean two different things. It can mean the obvious and be the actual characters name, but it also can mean a sense of seriousness and he then conveys that seriousness into reality for the characters. The two main characters in the play, Jack and Algernon, made every effort to be “Ernest” and “Earnest” in the play. They start their relationship based on the lies in the hope of marrying the girls that they love. There is irony in the play when they both call themselves “Earnest”, a name that suggests honesty and sincerity, yet they both create stories to escape something or the other. Jack creates a brother called “Ernest” in the city that he uses as a ‘scape goat’ to leave his prim and proper, respectable country life, whereas Algernon creates a friend by the name of “Bunbury” to escape his aunt’s high class society parties. He shows his lack of interest in such social events when he tells Jack,
