(1,-5)(3,-17)
slope = (-17 - (-5) / (3 - 1) = - 12/2 = - 6

y = mx + b
slope(m) = -6
use either of ur points...(1,-5)...x = 1 and y = -5
now we sub and find b, the y int
-5 = -6(1) + b
-5 = -6 + b
-5 + 6 = b
1 = b

so ur equation is : y = -6x + 1....or 6x + y = 1

The equation of the line that passes through the points \left( {1, - 5} \right) and \left( {3, - 17} \right) is \boxed{y= -6x + 1}.

Further  explanation:

The linear equation with slope m and intercept c is given as follows.

\boxed{y = mx + c}

The formula for slope of line with points \left( {{x_1},{y_1}} \right) and \left({{x_2},{y_2}}\right) can be expressed as,

\boxed{m=\dfrac{{{y_2} - {y_1}}}{{{x_2} - {x_1}}}}

Given:

The passes through the points are  \left({1, - 5}\right) and \left({3, - 17}\right).

Explanation:

The line passes the points that are  \left({1, - 5}\right) and \left( {3, - 17}\right).

The slope of the line can be obtained as follows.

\begin{aligned}m&=\frac{{-17-\left( { - 5}\right)}}{{\left( 3 \right) - 1}}\\&=\frac{{ - 12}}{2}\\&=- 6\\\end{aligned}

The slope of the line ism =  - 6.

The line passes through the point \left({3, - 17}\right).

Substitute 3 for x, - 6 for m and -17 for y in equation y = mx + c to obtain the value of c.

\begin{aligned}-17&= - 6\left(3\right)+c\\- 17&=- 18+ c\\- 17 + 18 &= c\\1 &=c\\\end{aligned}

The equation is y =  - 6x + 1.

Hence, the equation of the line that passes through the points \left( {1, - 5}\right) and \left( {3, - 17}\right) is \boxed{y= -6x + 1}.

The time, t, required to travel a fixed distance varies inversely as the
Lemur [1.5K]

You must travel at 42 mph for 4 hours

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Time varies inversely as rate of motion

Let "t" be the time required

Let "r" be the rate of motion

Then, we get

t \propto \frac{1}{r}\\\\t = k \times \frac{1}{r}\\\\t = \frac{k}{r} -------- eqn 1

Where, "k" is the constant of proportionality

<em><u>You travel 3 hours at a rate of 56 mph</u></em>

Substitute t = 3 and r = 56 in eqn 1

3 = \frac{k}{56}\\\\k = 3 \times 56\\\\k = 168

<em><u>Find the  rate you must travel for 4 hours</u></em>

r = ? and t = 4

Substitute t = 4 and k = 168 in eqn 1

4 = \frac{168}{r}\\\\r = \frac{168}{4}\\\\r = 42

Thus you must travel at 42 mph for 4 hours

If 24 water bottles weigh 30 pounds, how much would a shipment of 150 water bottles weigh?
mojhsa [17]

Answer:

A shipment of 150 bottles will weigh 120 pounds.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that:

24 bottles of water weigh 30 pounds

Ratio of bottles to weight = 24 : 30

Number of bottles in shipment = 150

Weight of bottles = x

Ratio = x : 150

As the relation is proportional

24 : 30 :: x : 150

Product of mean = Product of extreme

30x = 24 * 150

30x = 3600

Dividing both sides by 30

\frac{30x}{30}=\frac{3600}{30}\\x= 120

Hence,

A shipment of 150 bottles will weigh 120 pounds.

[ALGEBRA]Can someone check my work, if something is wrong please state steps?
IRISSAK [1]
I agree with ur answer...

d = 16t^2....divide both sides by 16
d / 16 = t^2 ...take the square root of both sides, eliminating the ^2
sqrt (d/16) = t
(sqrt d) / 4 = t

5. The relationship between the number of miles
PtichkaEL [24]

Answer:

well it's logical to assume for every 1 minute I run is x amount of a mile. so x will be be minutes and y is mile. because you don't say for every 1 mile I run is 10 minutes. it doesn't make sense that way.
