The best way to describe it is that it is authoritative and it tells you his thoughts on the topic of which is slavery.

Douglas's tone is passionate enough to narrates events as evidence. Also, that is achieved with a serious and vehement tone.

Some times irony is used, but not in abuse matter. At he end, we can see a eloquent narrative, using some rhetorical figures according to the event that is being developed.
