It's pretty good,
instead of saying 'I love you Casey McMenamin with all my heart' you could just begin the poem with 'Sitting here at my desk thinking about you'
but if you feel you like your version better then go for it

The first one is correct. When you use ; in a sentence, it means that the first half could be a grammatically correct sentence without the second half. And the second half depends on the first half to be correct.
