It is much like the VERSE and CHORUS in much popular song. The first part – canto, and the second and the longer part – montuno are the two-part structure of the Afro Cuban mambo. After an extended instrumental introduction, the canto proper begins. When the canto ends decisively and the montuno begins with a coro.
