An airline would like to determine, within 3 percentage points and with 95% confidence, the percentage of next month’s customers

who judge the courtesy of its employees as being "very good to excellent." What sample size would you recommend? (Be conservative and use p=0.5)

Answer:

n=\frac{\hat p (1-\hat p)}{(\frac{ME}{z})^2}   (b)

We can use p =0.5. And replacing into equation (b) the values from part a we got:

n=\frac{0.5(1-0.5)}{(\frac{0.03}{1.96})^2}=1067.11

And rounded up we have that n=1068

Step-by-step explanation:

Previous concepts

A confidence interval is "a range of values that’s likely to include a population value with a certain degree of confidence. It is often expressed a % whereby a population means lies between an upper and lower interval".

The margin of error is the range of values below and above the sample statistic in a confidence interval.

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

The population proportion have the following distribution

p \sim N(p,\sqrt{\frac{p(1-p)}{n}})

Solution to the problem

In order to find the critical value we need to take in count that we are finding the interval for a proportion, so on this case we need to use the z distribution. Since our interval is at 95% of confidence, our significance level would be given by \alpha=1-0.95=0.05 and \alpha/2 =0.025. And the critical value would be given by:

z_{\alpha/2}=-1.96, t_{1-\alpha/2}=1.96

The margin of error for the proportion interval is given by this formula:

ME=z_{\alpha/2}\sqrt{\frac{\hat p (1-\hat p)}{n}}    (a)

And on this case we have that ME =\pm 0.03 equivaent to 3% points and we are interested in order to find the value of n, if we solve n from equation (a) we got:

n=\frac{\hat p (1-\hat p)}{(\frac{ME}{z})^2}   (b)

We can use p =0.5. And replacing into equation (b) the values from part a we got:

n=\frac{0.5(1-0.5)}{(\frac{0.03}{1.96})^2}=1067.11

And rounded up we have that n=1068

The length of a rectangle is 4 less than twice the width. The area of the
Zolol [24]

Answer:

Width: 7 Length: 10

Step-by-step explanation:

Width: x

length: 2x-4

Area: 70 meters squared

(2x-4)x=70

2x^2-4x=70

2x^2-4x-70=0

2(x^2-2x-35)=0

(x-7)(x+5)=0

x cannot be negative so x=7

The cost of eight stress balls and five T-shirts is $111.75. The cost of twelve stress balls and four T-shirts is $102.00. What
aksik [14]
Let's say stress ball cost x and t shirt cost y
8x+5y=111.75
12x+4y=102.00→3x+y=25.5→y=25.5-3x

8x+5(25.5-3x)= 111.75
8x+127.5-15x=111.75
-7x=-15.75
x=2.25

12x+4y=102
12(2.25)+4y=102
27+4y=102
4y=75
y=18.75

A boy is twice as old as his sister who is x years old now. In 2 years, the boy will be
Maksim231197 [3]

Answer and Step-by-step explanation:

2x + 2 is the answer.

If the boy is twice as old, and the sister's age is represented by <em>x</em>, then we multiply 2 to x to represent the boy's age.

Then we add 2 when 2 years pass by.
