The Nest-Robet Zacks Why did Jimmy feel queer and frightening sense of loss, as well as of gain?Explain
V125BC [204]

Answer:

Jimmy had this feeling because his mother not scolding him because of his disobedience felt like he had suddenly grown up and was now left alone to make decisions on his own, something he was not used to.

Explanation:

Jimmy Swanson insisted on going for the hike with Paul even when his mother did not grant him the permission. He felt caged because his parents always monitored him and made important decisions for him. Now, however, he flouted his mother's instructions, went on the hike, and even invited Paul to come over to his place.

Strangely, his mother approved of his decision as against the scolding which he expected. This was new to him, and left him feeling like he was now alone in the world to make his own decisions. It is just like seeking freedom and when you finally get it, you discover that it comes with responsibilities.

III. The equal protection clause: it guarantees that all citizens will be treated equally by the law.

Explanation:

The 14th Amendment is an amendment to the constitution of the United States of America and it addresses the issue of civil and legal rights for the African American citizens and slaves who had gained freedom after the American Civil War. The 14th Amendment is made up of the clause known as the equal protection of the laws.

An equal protection is a clause that states and guarantees that no state and local governments shall make or enforce any law which would contravene the privileges, rights or immunities of all persons born or naturalized in the United States of America. Simply stated, the equal protection guarantees that all citizens will be treated equally by the law.

The equal protection clause took effect in the United States of America in 1868.

The ratification of the Constitution known as the fourteenth (14th) amendment which held on the 4th of July, 1868 by the North Carolina General Assembly of 1868-1869, readmitted North Carolina to the Union but required an adoption of a universal manhood suffrage for the people.

In conclusion, four features of the 14th Amendment include the following;

I. The citizenship clause: it grants citizenship to everyone born or naturalized in the United States of America.

II. The due process clause: it guarantees that no individual should be denied access to life, liberty and property without recourse to the due process law.

III. The equal protection clause: it guarantees that all citizens will be treated equally by the law.

IV. It prohibited racial segregation in the United States of America.

Of mice and men major conflicts and obstacles?
Nastasia [14]

There are two main conflicts in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. One conflict is an internal one: Man verses Himself; the other conflict is external: Man verses Man.

In regard to the internal conflict, George feels responsible for Lennie. He made a promise to Lennie's aunt which forces George to care for Lennie.  This conflict is highlighted through Lennie's, inevitable, getting into trouble.  The problems that Lennie cause force George to feel held back and unable to move on for himself. In the end, George must come to terms with what is best for Lennie.

In regard to the external conflict, Man verses Man, this is exampled in many different ways throughout the novel. 1) Lennie against Curley. 2) Lennie against George. 3) Lennie against Curley's Wife. 4) George and Lennie against Society.  While examples 1-3 are basic physical conflicts, example 4 is not.  Lennie and George are conflicted with society as a while because they cannot find a place where they fit in.  They, like many ranchers at the time, would find work, make enough money to move on, and leave.  George and Lennie wanted more; they wanted a place to call their own.  Unfortunately, there is no place for them.
