As a guy, if I am a woman, I would be a little harsh with such guys, who act unsure of who they are. Why do you have to put your self in a position of such subservience? Your words seem to mean one thing to him, but your actions mean another.
To solidly imprint your like onto his mind, act. Show actions which are consistent with the implied meaning behind the word “like”.
You could for example, initiate some physical action, or show you care etc etc. Otherwise, there is nothing you can do, as judge jury and executioner of the relationship. You can only mostly submit a sentence - “yes”, or “no”.
