Saint Peter's Basilica was built above the burial ground of Saint Peter after his crucifixion under the rule of the Roman Empire Nero.

Saint Peter's Basilica built in a Renaissance style church situated in Vatican City and is acknowledged to be the largest church in the world.   The Catholic Church built on the burial site of Saint Peter. Saint Peter was the first bishop of Rome and one of the Apostles of Christ. In the  4th century, Emperor Constantine I decided to honour Peter with a basilica, by the end of the 15th century, the reconstruction of the church began in a new style. Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Carlo Maderno designed the present church in the 15th century.
