Mongkut (Rama IV) (October 18, 1804-1 October 1868) was the king of Siam from 1851 to 1868, considered by historians as one of the most important monarchs of the Chakri dynasty. In 1851 he came to the throne. His main concern was the maintenance of the independence of the country against the European colonizers represented by the expansion in Southeast Asia of France and the United Kingdom. Given his training, he felt that it was necessary for Thais to adopt Western ways of life in order not to be considered barbarians by the colonial powers.

Starting in the late 1600s, why did the planter class increasingly rely on african slaves for labor rather than indentured serva
Dahasolnce [82]
In 1600s the planter class increasingly relied on African slaves for labor majorly because slaves were offering cheap labor now that the planters didn't have to pay for this form of labor. This led to most of them foregoing traditional indentured servants who would be paid for  their labor and instead opted for African slaves.

In what way did the political situation in vietnam resemble that of korea in the 1950s?
lawyer [7]

The political situation in Vietnam during the 1950's was almost the same as the situation in Korea. The reason for this statement is that in both countries there were two parts, North and South, being politically opposed, and being supported by the USSR and the US. The North, in both Vietnam and Korea were with communist ideologies, and both of them were supported by the USSR. The South, in both Vietnam and Korea were with nationalist ideologies, and both were supported by the US. In both situations, the North was stronger, if the situation was that the combat was going to be one on one without the foreign support.
