The answers are:

  • Pakistan
  • Bangladesh

*India's history begins with the Indus Valley civilization. This and the civilizations that followed ruled much of the Indian subcontinent and Pakistan until around 520 B.C. Series of conquers and revolts had come to play by the time freedom came. Under the leadership of Mohandas Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, India was able to gain its independence in August of 1947.  In the process, the nation of Pakistan was partitioned and given its own independence. At this time, Pakistan was split in two parts, east and west. The people of East Pakistan eventually rebelled against the oppressive nature of the government and formed their own nation in 1971, Bangladesh.

The two modern nations that were once part of the territory of India are Pakistan and Bangladesh. This is known as the Partition of India, which represented a division of British India in 1947. This two territories went on to become separate countries. The partition was set forth in the Indian Independence Act 1947 and resulted in the dissolution of the British Raj (that's how the British government in India was called).
