Think about how you close conversations by giving short answers to the following questions. If you aren't sure what types of cue
s or strategies you use, ask someone who knows you well, or have a conversation with another person and ask him or her to note what you do and say when you are completing the cues and strategies listed below. 1 You need to end a conversation you are having with a friend about vacations. How would you end the conversation using the strategies just learned?
2 What types of turn-requesting cues would you use?
3 What types of backchanneling cues would you use?
1. I would end the conversation by being honest and not tell an excuse to end the conversation. I would appreciate the time the person spent in the conversation by saying something like: "Thank you for sharing your thoughts". And finally I would say a simple: “Okay, take care,” or something similar.
2. The Turn- requesting cues, I would use are: "I'd like to say something" or "er/um".
3. I would say some brief utterances such as "Mm-hm, uh-huh, yeah".
