King Darius had conquered the city of Thrace, so, with Thassos and his continental mines taken, and already preparing to build ships on the coast, he looked at the Athenians and knew that his power over the Greek cities of Asia would only be achieved when conquer European Greece. This is the beginning (or causes) of the conflict between Greeks and Persians, also called the Medical Wars.
Greece and Athens did not seek war with Persia and it wan't possible to reach an agreement with Persia and King Darius, who was already seeking to expand his empire throughout Greece. The battle of Marathon was the great moment for the Greeks, where the Persian power was defeated; then the same Greek generals would fight in other battles and eventually the defeat of Persia would be achieved, preserving the culture, philosophy, art and culture of Classical Greece, which in turn would determine the Western world from the Renaissance to the present day.

Jackson had accused the Adams bureaucracy of bribery and intervening against his victory during the campaign. As President, he ordered the dismissal of a large number of high-ranking government employees, including Washington bureau chiefs, land and customs agents, federal marshals, and lawyers. By "rotation of office," Jackson appeared to be purging the incompetence, laxity, and ignorance that came with long tenure and returning the potential for political service to the general public. Yet his haste and gullibility muddled his intentions.

What happened is that the union forgot about a little place called Fort Sumter, and the people their were almost out of food! Lincoln then sent a message to the president of the Confederacy that he was only sending them food supplies, but that guy wasn't to happy with that and called war of Lincolns butt, because apparently we were invading the south.
To sum it up. They didn't act upon, because if they did it means that the union is acknowledging that fact that they succeeded the union.
