@ It manages the Processor/ CPU so that it is available to all the running applications.

@ It manages the main memory so that the sufficient memory is available to different applications.

@ Manages all the input and output devices through it's I / O controller program.

@ Provides platform to the applications to run on the computer and communicate with hardware devices.

@ Secures files, programs and other system resources from unauthorised access through password etc.

@ Keeps track of the storage, retrieval, deletion, creation and management of files.

@ Provides an interface to the user to work on the computer.
