In world war two, the battle of midway was the first vital US victory. It was fought in mid pacific. Due to early code-breaking, the US navy was able to prepare and counter the Japanese plan to destroy the US Navy carriers which were unharmed in pearl harbor attack. During the battle, the American Carrier planes drowned four fleet carriers and five thousand sailors.
