On the case of Dred Scott about civil rights in America, the Supreme Court ruling was that neither free blacks or slaves could be American citizens. That slaves were property and if the owners moved to another state, the slave was still property. And that the Missouri compromise was against the law because Congress had no power to decide where slavery was allowed. The demand of Dred Scott was that he should be free because his owner had lived in a state that promoted freedom, and then he moved to a state that supported slavery.
