Transitional words or phrases are those that help connect ideas, sentences, and paragraphs in any piece of writing, as well as in speeches; they help to make writings flow better and they can be used anywhere when needed in a text: they can link one paragraph to another, one sentence to another, one idea to another, and so on and so forth. Some examples of this type of words are <em>however, besides, likewise, similarly </em>and<em> for instance.</em>
I think it is called a paradox. A paradox is when something seems to contradict itself, but is actually a correct statement. Think of the song "Paradox" from Pirates of Penzance, it is all about an incident that seems to be false yet is true!
