The increase in population means more food and more water consumption. This results in depletion of freshwater resources from the planet. For example, from the 1990's up till now the global population has increased by 80 million people which demands sixty-four billion cubic meters of water for consumption.

This growth in population will also lead to more water contamination. Studies show that more than 80 per cent of the world's water is contaminated.
