Bacterial cells were coinfected with two types of bacteriophage lambda: One carried the c+ allele and the other the c allele. Af

ter the cells lysed, progeny bacteriophage were collected. When a single such progeny bacteriophage was used to infect a new bacterial cell, it was observed in rare cases that some of the resulting progeny were c+ and others were c. Explain this result.

Answer:

Since the cells are being coinfected by 2 types of viruses, this can create heteroduplex areas. DNA repair systems normally correct the heteroduplex areas. In rare cases, the heteroduplex is not corrected and a chromosome containing the mismatch appears so a single bacteriophage particle can be generated. One DNA strand is c+, and the other strand is c. When such a bacteriophage infects a fresh bacterial host cell, some molecules are created by DNA replication.

The colon is divided into two sections called the ascending transverse and descending transverse. True False
inn [45]

According to the research, the correct option is false. The colon can be divided into four sections: ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid.

What is the colon?

It refers to the portion of the large intestine, whose function is to convert digested food waste (chyme).

It can be divided into four sections:

 • Ascending, it begins at the junction with the tenuous intestine and extends down the right side of the abdomen.

 • Transverse, which crosses the abdomen from the right side to the left.
 • Descending

 • Sigmoid.

Therefore, we can conclude that according to the research, the correct option is false. The colon can be divided into four sections: ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid.

QUESTION 16 Why does spoiled food become more sour? Spoilage microbes produce acid The nutrients in juice react with its packagi
galben [10]

Answer:

Spoilage microbes produce acid

Explanation:

When food becomes spoiled or is unprotected, bacteria will invade the food. These types of bacteria are called spoilage bacteria. The bacteria will multiply by consuming the nutrients from the food and grows very rapidly. In certain conditions, the invading bacteria will produce acids that protects them and creates a barrier for other microbes. This acid is what gives spoiled food a sour taste.

Cell Cycle

Explanation:

Eukaryotes grow and divide by cell cycle.

The main parts of a cell cycle are an ordered series of events – Gap 1 or G1 phase, Synthesis or S phase, Gap 2 or G2 phase, and the mitosis or M phases.

Interphase period (G1, S, G2 phases) - cell grows by size, duplicates its content, replicates its DNA, and finally prepares for mitotic cell division .

Mitosis and cytokinesis - formation of two identical daughter cells

Cell cycle is regulated by regulatory or restrictive checkpoints in the cell cycle which are activated with detection of a defective DNA.

Proliferation of undesired or cells with defective DNA like in case of tumor cells is controlled by the action of suppressing agents like p53 and cyclins.

The tumor suppressor gene protein p53 prohibits division of tumor cells. Cyclins regulate cell cycle by activation of the enzyme cyclin-dependent kinase.
