Carter worked to ensure the importance of human rights in foreign policy and promoted a fair approach. He successfully reached a settlement between the Egyptians (Anwar Sadat) and Israel (Menachem Begin) in 1978. Carter also set a high moral standard in his negotiations with foreign leaders.
