Answer:In the novel, there is a dog who has rabies and Atticus shoots it. This action helps Scour realize how different her dad is from the people in town and how brave he really is. The whole theme of How to Kill a Mockingbird is that it is a sin to kill an innocent thing. Tom was innocent. In a way, the story killed Scouts innocence as well as she realizes what the world is really like.
