Answer: The correctly spelled plural forms are "stories",  "jinxes",  "alleys" and  "slices".

Explanation: When writing the plural form of a noun, it is necessary to pay attention to the rules regarding the formation of plurals. In English,<u> the plural form is generally formed only by adding an "-s" at the end of a noun</u>.<u> This is the case of "alley" and "slice",</u> whose plural forms are "alleys" and "slices" respectively. However, in other cases<u>, when words end in "-x"</u>, "-sh" or "-ch",<u> plurals are formed by adding the suffix "-es" at the end</u> of the noun. One example is the noun "jinx", whose plural form is "jinxes". Finally,<u> when a noun ends in a consonant followed by an "-y", the final "y" is changed into "i" and the suffix "-es" is added at the end</u> of the word. For example, <u>the plural form of "story" is "stories"</u>. In that way, taking into account these  rules, "taxs" and "toyes" have been incorrectly spelled. The plural forms of "tax" and "toy" are "taxes" and "toys".

iris [78.8K]

In the novel “Hard Times” by Charles Dicken, Mr. Gradgrind refers to Sissy as “girl number 20”. Charles uses this labeling of Sissy to criticize the dehumanization of students and the stripping away of their individuality.

Mr. Gradgrind is so unbiased that he doesn't use names when referring to his students, instead he uses numbers like he does with Sissy.
