Why is Korea described as the bridge between China and Japan?

Buddhism and Confucianism spread to Japan from China by way of the Korean peninsula. Korea and Japan were in China's cultural orbit through much of their histories. Korean art developed under the influence of both Chinese art and the teachings of Buddhism and Confucianism. This included music, poetry. pottery, sculpture and painting. The Spanish were not pleased with the treaty and delayed ratification while hoping to gain support from fellow European powers. None was forthcoming and after King Ferdinand was reduced to a constitutional monarch in 1820, Spain approved the treaty.
