Buddhism and Confucianism spread to Japan from China by way of the Korean peninsula. Korea and Japan were in China's cultural orbit through much of their histories. Korean art developed under the influence of both Chinese art and the teachings of Buddhism and Confucianism. This included music, poetry. pottery, sculpture and painting.
