The author uses very vague and mysterious phrases such as "as the website had promised" and " unlock the door with the key I had been sent.". Because he doesn't reveal who or what sent him/ brought him to that home, we question why he is there and what is going to happen next (Good or Bad). This can be seen in movies too. Typically writers will leave out key information to make us think and wonder. Hope that helped! :))

How are the sentence patterns for asking questions different from the sentence patterns for making statements

In the sentence pattern for asking questions, the subject is placed immediately after the operator (Operator [did, does, was] + Subject) while in the sentence pattern for making statements, the subject is placed before the verb phrase (Subject + VP). However, some statements may be in question form (You've already eaten?) and some questions (such as rhetorical ones) may be in statement form (Haven't you peed already?).
