How would you describe the opposite of a hyperbole

English

I would describe the opposite of a hyperbole as an understatement because a hyperbole is exaggerated and an understatement is something that isn't as important or as large. Hope this helps! :)

A hyperbole is an exaggerated statement, something that sounds bigger than it actually is.

The opposite of that would be making something sound smaller, not as bad or not as good, etc, as it actually is, like an understatement.

Answer:

1. Which two passages are firsthand accounts? How do you know?

Passage B and C. These use the first person point of view.

2. Which passage is a secondhand account? How do you know?

Passage A. It uses the 3rd person point of view.

3. In Passage A, is the author’s perspective with regard to Lewis and Clark’s trip through the Rockies neutral or positive? Why?

Neutral. It is an objective account of the trip.

4. In Passage B, is the author’s perspective with regard to Lewis and Clark’s trip through the Rockies neutral or positive? Why?

Positive. The feeling of joy is positive.

 5. How is the author’s perspective in Passage C different from that in Passage B?

Passage C is taken from an outsider’s perspective based on his observation of Clark and Lewis’ expressions and actions while B is a personal account of how Lewis felt.

Explanation:

1. Personal account uses the first person point of view. Passage B is the personal account of Lewis himself; while Passage C is the narration of the group. Both accounts were based on the actual experience.

2. Passage A is a secondhand account because it is a narration or description of somebody who did not actually experience the trip. It also uses the third person point of view as shown in the use of the pronouns "they" and "she."

3. The author's perspective in Passage A is neutral in the sense that there is no indication of any subjectivity such as the feelings of the persons described or author's himself. Also, the author did not include his own opinion about his subject. It is simple and direct.

4. Passage B is the personal account of Lewis. It shows a positive perspective especially with the mention of the word "joy" which is a positive feeling in response to Lewis' personal reaction to the beauty of the sight.

5. Passage C, although narrated in a 1st hand basis just like that of Passage B, is taken from the experience and observation of the other members of the journey. The expressions and feelings of Clark and Lewis are observed. There is also a mention of the description of how difficult the journey was.

Change Everybody forgets that to passive voice<br>
Rus_ich [418]

KiAnswer:

<em>The passive form of EVERYBODY FORGETS THAT </em>

<em>is </em>

<u><em>THAT IS FORGOTTEN BY EVERYBODY.</em></u>

Explanation:

Active Voice -When an action is performed by the subject and is expressed by the verb, it is an active voice. The structure of active voice is - SUBJECT+VERB +OBJECT.

Example- He writes a letter.

Passive-  A letter is written by him

Passive Voice - When the action expressed by the verb is received by the subject, it is passive voice. The structure of Passive Voice is - OBJECT+VERB+SUBJECT.

Example - Food is eaten by him

Active.    - He eats food.

Rules--------

◼️Rule 1. Identify the (S+V+O) Subject, Verb and object in the active sentence to convert to passive voice

Example:

He drives car. (Subject – He, verb – Drives, object – Car)

◼️Rule 2. Interchange the object and subject with each other, i.e. object of the active sentence become the subject of the passive sentence.

Example :

Active voice : She knits sweater. (Subject – She, Verb – Knits, Object – Sweater)

Passive Voice : The sweater is knitted by her. (Object sweater is interchanged with the subject She).

◼️Rule 3. In passive voice sometimes the subject is not used, i.e. the subject in passive voice can be omitted if the sentence without it gives enough meaning.

Example :

Milk is sold in litres

◼️Rule 4. Change the base verb in the active sentence into the past participle ie. third form verb in a passive sentence i.e. preceded by (By, With, to, etc). Base verbs are never used in passive voice sentences.

Example:

Active voice: She prepares dinner.

Passive voice: The dinner is prepared by her

◼️Rule 5. While conversion of Active voice sentence to Passive voice sentence, the pronoun used in the sentence also changes in the following manner.

I will become Me

We will become Us

◼️Rule 6. Use the suitable helping or auxiliary verb (is/am/are/was, etc.). The rules for using auxiliary verbs in passive voice sentences are different for each tense.

Example:

The letter is written by her

A book was not bought by her

Which element is shared by both " Zoos: Joys or Jails? " and "Why do we Need Zoos? "N
Montano1993 [528]

<em>Which element is shared by both " Zoos: Joys or Jails? " and "Why do we Need Zoos?”</em>

<em>The answer is D) One-sided argument.</em>

  • <em>In both " Zoos: Joys or Jails? “ and "Why do we Need Zoos?” it is clearly stated the idea of the writer against zoos. In “Zoos: Joys or Jails” the word joys compared to jails gives the ironic sensation the writer wants to give, it means people get joy out of jailing animals into zoos. The two “j’s” create a sort of rhyme that helps to the ironic or sarcastic tone.  In “Why do we need Zoos?” the idea is that there is no real purpose on having zoos.</em>

<em>Read The passage. What technique is the author using to develop point of view?</em>

<em>" Though zoos are meant to be a joy to viewers and teach lessons about our earth, the zoo jails its inhabitants and passes on faulty knowledge . "</em>

<em>The correct answer is 4) Arguments from opposing views. </em>

  • <em>In this passage, the technique helps the author in expressing the two sides of the coin, this is that people who go to zoos have fun and learn but treating animals as mere objects of entertainment.  </em>
