Increase in livestock population results in overexploitation of pastures. Due to this, grass and other types of vegetation are unable to survive and grow in the area, and lack of vegetation cover leads to soil erosion.

Overgrazing comes with many negative effects for native species, including soil erosion, land degradation and loss of valuable species. This affects the nutrients on top layers of soil and its quality as it is hard to recover when removes by constant grazing and constant practice of this leads to desertification.
