So named because they wanted to purify the Anglican Church from the influence of the  Rome`s Church, they thought that the England`s Church had adopted too many practices from Rome. Being subjected to continuous internal persecution, they decided to flee to the territories of North America, with the intention of founding a colony based on their own religious ideals.
