Prefixes and suffixes are a set of letters added to the beginning or to the end of words. As they are not words they cannot stand on their one in a sentence.  Prefixes, added at the beginning, from a new word with a different meaning. Suffixes are added to the end of the word to form a different class of word. A root is a word or a morpheme from which other words grow, adding prefixes or suffixes.
