The most commonly reported form of abuse in the United States is neglect.

Child neglect constitutes the most common reported form of abuse.

According to a report carried out and released by states in 1996, 25,  62% cases involved neglect, 25%  physical abuse, 7% sexual abuse, 3% emotional maltreatment and 4% of any other type of abuse.  

Child neglect is currently the most common of all types of child maltreatment in the United States. In fact, 78.3 % of examples of child maltreatment in the United States are instances of neglect.
