The correct answer is 5.) The General had realized that Rainsford would not be easy to catch. This can be explained in the last part where it says "Very deliberately he blew a smoke ring into the air; [...] The swish of the underbrush against his hunting boots grew fainter and fainter."

Answer:

I believe the best answer to be number 3) He figured out that Rainsford was atop the tree.

Explanation:

"The Most Dangerous Game" is a short story by Richard Connell. Rainsford is a famous hunter who accidentally falls from a yatch and swims to General Zaroff's island. Zaroff invites Rainsford to hunt men with him. In the general's opinion, hunting irrational animals is no longer a challenge. Because Rainsford refuses, Zaroff makes him his new prey.

General Zaroff and Rainsford are both very skilled hunters indeed. Zaroff, however, has a gun, dogs, and knowledge of the island while Rainsford has only a hunting knife and his will to live. In the passage we are analyzing here, Zaroff realizes Rainsford is on top of the tree. But he wants to give Rainsford another chance. At first, Rainsford thinks Zaroff has failed to track him. But then he realizes the general did find him and chose to let him live a while longer:

Rainsford's second thought was even more terrible. It sent a shudder of cold horror through his whole being. Why had the general smiled? Why had he turned back?

Rainsford did not want to believe what his reason told him was true, but the truth was as evident as the sun that had by now pushed through the morning mists. The general was playing with him! The general was saving him for another day's sport.

Zaroff does it because he enjoys the challenge of hunting another human being - especially one so intelligent - and because his arrogance leads him to believe he won't possibly lose. So far in the story, Rainsford has been the most challenging prey Zaroff has ever had. This isn't the only moment in the short story when Zaroff can catch Rainsford, but doesn't. More than once, he chooses to delay the pleasure of killing Rainsford. However, Zaroff ends up being outsmarted and killed by his prey.

Is indigenous theatre important to showcase? why or why not?
makvit [3.9K]

Answer:

While only one's beliefs and opinions have the proper weight to anchor this question, in my opinion, absolutely. Not only does it bring the idea of culture into the societal equation, but it expands areas of knowledge that can't really be explained otherwise unless acted out. This also gives minorities the opportunity to act out history correlating to their culture.

Hope this helps! :)

Over the course of the play, does the character of Alice change? In 75 to 100 words, explain whether you believe Alice changes b
Nookie1986 [14]

Answer:

I believe that Alice changes over the course of the play because at the beginning of the story Alice is curious, childish, and imaginative and at the end of the story she is brave, fearless, has a good understanding of everything, and is more involved with Wonderland because she is trying to help people out. I think this because throughout the story, Alice experiences frequent physical changes. She's constantly shrinking and growing, she struggles to maintain a comfortable size. She begins to manage situations and handle them as an adult would, she learns to stand up to authority in order to get taken seriously, such as the Queen of Hearts.

Explanation:

Alice matures over the course of the play. For instance, at the beginning of the play she is shown as a bright and timid girl. When she first meets the Red Queen, she is polite and pays attention to the queen. Although the queen talks nonsense about the advantages of not having a name, Alice doesn’t challenge her:

RED QUEEN: It’s time for you to answer now; open your mouth a little wider when you speak, and always say, “Your Majesty.” I suppose you don’t want to lose your name?

ALICE: No, indeed.

When Alice meets the Red Queen at the end of the play, she doesn’t stand for the queen’s nonsense. Alice is not afraid to say what she is thinking:

ALICE: Please, would you tell me—

RED QUEEN: Speak when you’re spoken to.

ALICE: But if everybody obeyed that rule, and if you only spoke when you were spoken to, and the other person always waited for you to begin, you see nobody would ever say anything, so that—

RED QUEEN: Preposterous.

ALICE: I only said “if.”

Alice’s response to the Red Queen shows that she becomes more confident over the course of the story.
