Which quotation from "Uses and Abuses of the Umbrella" most clearly demonstrates that the author is using a comical tone? "Cork

hats and newspapers of more than eight pages were invented for the rain.""An intelligent woman once said: 'The umbrella is an article proper to the desk.'""...one would determine that when the rains begin the umbrellas disappear.""The umbrella, though we are led to believe otherwise, was not made for the rain."

I believe it is the first quotation. "Cork hats and newspapers of more than eight pages were invented for the rain."

I think this is the correct answer because this quotation doesn't even mention umbrellas, but tells us about the other things we can put on our heads when it rains. The second, third, and fourth options may have non-comical meaning as well, depending on the context.

Nora bikes 30 miles per hour. Jiro bikes 45miles per hour. If nora and jiro each bike for 2 hour, how many more miles does jiro
eimsori [14]
If Nora bikes 30 miles per 1 hour, she'll ride 5 times as much in 5 hours.
30*5=150 miles
Jiro at 45 miles per 1 hour
45*5=225 miles in 5 hours

To find out how many more miles Jiro rides than Nora, subtract:
225-150=75
