Answer:

A. Wash vegetables purchased from the supermarket

B. Select organic produce from the local farmers' market

Explanation:

Pesticides are extremely common in agriculture, increasing the risk of consuming fruits and vegetables that contain their residues. This could lead to <u>severe problems in both human and wildlife health</u>.

Two ways to prevent exposure to pesticide residues are:

  • Washing vegetables after purchasing them at the supermarket: This is extremely important. Even though it is better to purchase organic fruits and vegetables, it could be more expensive and some people are unable to do it. Therefore, there are various types of F&V washes that are capable of eliminating any chemical residues from pesticides. This will decrease the exposure to pesticides significantly.
  • Selecting organic fruits and vegetables from the local farmers' market: Buying organic food is the best way to prevent pesticide exposure. However, according to researchers, even if not organic, fruits and vegetables that are bought at farmers’ markets contain less pesticides.

UNIT 1 TEXT QUESTIONS Review Questions Please answer each of the following questions in complete sentences. According to the U.S
arsen [322]

Answer:

The last part of the question is incomplete, the correct question is: What are the four best places to find pulse in the body?

1. According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, fitness is defined as a set of attributes that people have or achieve that relates to the ability to perform physical activity.

2. This definition is not very clear and raises a lot of questions.

3. The five main zones to consider when discussing physical fitness are: Lungs and heart strength, Muscle strength, Muscle endurance, Body composition and Flexibility

4. The best places to find a pulse are Wrist, inside of the elbow, side of the neck and top of the foot.

Explanation:

1. To be physically fit means to be in a state of health and well-being. Fitness is defined as the body's ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist disease and to react to emergency situations. Regular exercise is of great benefit to our health. The more exercise that is carried out, the more fit and healthy a person will be.

2. This definition is vague and raises as much questions as it answers. These attributes mentioned only address single areas of fitness. But fitness goes beyond one's ability to run fast or lift heavy weights.

3. Heart and lungs endurance: This is an indication of how well our body can supply fuel during physical activity through the body’s circulatory and respiratory systems. Activities that help improve heart and lungs endurance are those that cause an elevated heart rate for a sustained period. These activities include swimming, brisk walking, jogging and cycling.

Muscle strength: This is the ability of muscle to exert force during an activity. Muscle strength can be built through regular and sustained physical exercise, that tires the muscles. If muscles are worked regularly till they are tired, their strength will increase. To sustain muscle strength regularly exercise and protein intake are criteria that must be met.

Muscle endurance: This is the ability of a muscle to continue exerting force without tiring. Exercising for muscle endurance focuses more on ensuring that the muscles receive enough oxygenated blood to function rather than increase in muscle size. In training specifically for muscle endurance changes in the different types of muscle tissue, fast twitch and slow twitch fibers, are monitored.

Body composition: Body composition measures the relative amounts of fat and non-fat (bones, muscle) tissues in the body. Muscle weigh more than fat, therefore a person with a high muscle ratio would be heavier than a person with less muscle. A person can maintain the same weight but radically change the ratio of each of the components that make up the body. Body composition can be calculated through a rather lengthy process.

Flexibility: Flexibility is the range of movement across a joint. This is important because it improves the ability to link movements together smoothly and can help prevent injuries. Flexibility can be improved through activities designed to stretch the joints, ligaments and tendons. A simple daily stretching exercise can drastically improve overall body flexibility.

4. A pulse is the rhythmic beating in the arteries caused by the beating of the heart. A pulse is lower when a person is at rest, and speeds up during physical exertion. Pulse is often measured by feeling the arteries of the wrist or neck.
