Tom throws a ball into the air. The ball travels on a parabolic path represented by the equation h = 08t^2 + 40t, where h repres

ents the height of the ball above the ground and t represents the time in seconds.
How many seconds does it take the ball to reach its highest point?

What ordered pair represents the highest point that the ball reaches as it travels through the air?

It takes 1.25 seconds to reach the highest point, and that is given by the ordered pair (1.25, 37.5).

To find the highest point, we find the axis of symmetry first. This is given by
-b/2a:
-40/2(-16) = 40/32 = 1.25.

Now we plug this into the function:
-8t²+40t = -8(1.25)²+40(1.25) = -12.5 + 50 = 37.5.

Answer:

A quadratic equation is of the form y=ax^2+bx+c ...[1] then the axis of symmetry is given by:

x = -\frac{b}{2a}

As per the statement:

The ball travels on a parabolic path represented by the equation is:

h= -8t^2+40t          ....[2]

where,

h represents the height of the ball above the ground

t represents the time in seconds.

To find how many seconds does it take the ball to reach its highest point.

On comparing with [1] we have;

a = -8 and b = 40

then:

axis of symmetry is :

t =-\frac{40}{2(-8)} = \frac{40}{16} = 2.5 sec

⇒2.5 seconds does it take the ball to reach its highest point.

Substitute the value of t =2.5 sec in [2] we have;

h = -8(2.5)^2+40(2.5) = -50+100 = 50

Ordered pair = (2.5, 50)

Therefore, (2.5, 50) ordered pair represents the highest point that the ball reaches as it travels through the air

What is 1/4 of 100? You need to explain your answer in the simplest form
slega [8]

Answer:

25

Step-by-step explanation:

1/4 * 100 gives us a quarter of 100 which is 25. Just like the quarter in the American currency, it is 1/4 of 100 and that is 25 cents.

Solve the given inequality and graph the solution on a number line -x/2 + 3/2 < 5/2
Daniel [21]
The correct answer is x>-2. The graph is attached.

To solve this:

-x/2 + 3/2 < 5/2

Subtract 3/2 from both sides:
-x/2 + 3/2 - 3/2 < 5/2 - 3/2
-x/2 < 2/2
-x/2 < 1

Multiply both sides by 2:
(-x/2)*2 < 1*2
-x < 2

Divide both sides by -1:
-x/-1 < 2/-1

Remember to flip the the symbol since you divide both sides by a negative:
x > -2

To graph the inequality, we draw a number line, making sure we have -2 on it. We circle -2 and leave it open, since it is strictly greater than. Then we shade the line to the left.

Two step equations
Lady bird [3.3K]

Answer:

19 dollars

Step-by-step explanation:

What you have to do is find a way to make sure each book is the same price and it lowers to 16. First rule out 1-10. It wouldn't be possible. Next, try and start with the even numbers (16, 18, 20, and so on). It can't be twenty because 20 x 8 equals 160 and you're left with 16 dollars, not 8. so it's either 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, or 19. I calculated with my calcuator that it's not any of the answers but 19. So try it out!
