He thinks that if his father had been struck before they were moved from Sighet, he would attack the person. He says he "would have dug [his] nails into this criminal's flesh." This event shows how the imprisonment and the abuse the Jews faced in the camps changed them. This event can also be used to show why the Jews were too afraid to revolt while in the camps.
