Because of its rotation, the inner core of Earth is the cause of its magnetic field. This magnetic field helps protect the surface of the Earth from cosmic rays and other space-related particles. Human life could never have developed without this protection. The heat also accounts for most of the geological activity on Earth, including continent drift, and the magma associated with volcanic activity.
