In the myth of <em>Echo and Narcissus</em>, Echo is a nymph who falls in love with Narcissus, a young man of extreme beauty. Narcissus, however, was proud, and did not reciprocate her love, causing Echo to be extremely unhappy. In the account of their first meeting, we see that Echo is too worried to approach him. Therefore, she tries to communicate her love by repeating some of the words that he says back to him.
