Hard minerals are one of the main conditions that lead to a slower rate of weathering.

Rocks are made from different minerals and each mineral has different degree of hardness. Therefore, rocks made from extremely hard minerals keep colder and resist longer to weathering changes than the ones made from soft minerals.

Why do countries trade goods and services
borishaifa [10]

Answer:

Countries trade with each other when, on their own, they do not have the resources, or capacity to satisfy their own needs and wants. By developing and exploiting their domestic scarce resources, countries can produce a surplus, and trade this for the resources they need.

How has the physical geography of the United States
Usimov [2.4K]

The geography of the United States impacts the possible regions people settle in.

Areas that tend to be flat (or small amounts of small hills) tend to be the most population areas because it is easier to build houses, apartments, etc etc. However there is very few places people have settled where National Parks and Mountains are located because it is unstable and extremely difficult to make a house in that region.

What was the most difficult obstacle to overcome in the creation of an autonomous state after Indian independence was achieved?
il63 [147K]

Answer:

D. Indian princes' inability to decide on a format of government

Explanation:

The most difficult obstacle to overcome in the creation of an autonomous state after Indian independence was achieved is "Indian princes' inability to decide on a format of government."

This is evident in the case of the likes of Jammu and Kashmir, Hyderabad State, Junagarh, and Kalat who all had difficulties in accession of their state or territory to the other bigger British Raj territory who has gained independence.

This is because they were originally using a monarchy style of governance before independence and find it hard to determine a format of government to use after independence

P and S waves from an earthquake travel at different speeds, and this difference helps locate the earthquake "epicenter" (where
Studentka2010 [4]

Answer:

(a) Since both P and S wave travels the same distance, so it can be written as: Δx = V₁t₁ = V₂t₂,

Where, V₁- Speed of S wave

            V₂- Speed of P wave

t₁- time taken by S wave

t₂- time taken by P wave

Therefore, t₁ > t₂ (since, time taken by S wave is longer than P wave)

⇒ t₁ = t₂ + 1.5 min

⇒ t₁ = t₂ + 90 sec

⇒ V₁ (t₂ + 90 sec) = V₂ (t₂)

⇒ V₁t₂ + V₁ (90 sec) = V₂ (t₂)

⇒ V₂t₂ - V₁t₂ = V₁ (90 sec)

⇒ t₂ (V₂- V₁) = V₁ (90 sec)

⇒ t₂ = {V₁ (90 sec)} ÷ {(V₂- V₁)}

⇒ t₂ = {5.5 × (90 sec)} ÷ {(8.5 - 5.5)}

Therefore, t₂ = 165 sec

Since, Δx = V₁t₁ = V₂t₂

Now, Δx = V₂t₂ = (8.5 × 165 sec)

⇒ Δx = 1402 km

Therefore, Δx is approximately 1400 km (this means that the earthquake occurred at a distance of about 1400 km from the recorded seismic station)

(b) No, Only seismic station is not sufficient to detect the epicenter of an earthquake. Seismologists and geologists usually use the triangulation method in order to determine the exact location of the epicenter. This is possible by the use of three seismographs that are placed at three different locations nearby to that earthquake occurring position.
