The mangrove forests act like a natural barrier, defense system if you will, when it comes to the negative effects from the storms. These forests are located between the coast and the mainland. They are very dense and resilient forests. Because of that, the mangrove forests manage to lower down the speed of the winds, break up the big waves, but also accumulating a lot of water in them. All of those things combined manage to mitigate the storm damage in the places in the mainland, thus being a solid natural protector.
