One of the benefits of the new suburban lifestyle of the 1950s was that : Suburban homes had yards and crime was low

Yards is deemed as valuable for families who are planning to have kids so the children have spaces to play with. Yard like this is extremely expensive in cities. On top of that, the crime rate in city are around 2.2 times more than the crime rate in suburban area.
