The correct answer is: Crying profusely

Remember that in figurative language, figures of speech are used in order to have a deeper impact or effect on the reader. Those figures of speech can be employed to provide the text with a deeper meaning, not only the literal one. In this case methapors, similes, and allusions would be chosen. They can also be use to make an effect on the reader's senses, in this case the author would chose alliterations, imageries, or onomatopoeia.

In this case the writer uses the phrase "she was a fountain". This phrase is commonly used to decribe somebody that is crying profusely as they squirt water like one. This is a metaphor as it compares in an implicit way two things that seem unrelated but have something in common.

Identify the underlined clauses either as subordinate or independent. 1. Because he ran, he was able to catch the bus. subordint
d1i1m1o1n [39]

Answer:

The question is not complete, as none of the clauses in the sentence are underlined, however, I will give you the type of each of the two clauses:

Because he ran: (subordinate clause)

he was able to catch the bus. (independent clause)

Explanation:

A clause is a part of a sentence, and a clause contains a verb.

Subordinate/dependent clauses are clauses that cannot stand alone when isolated from a sentence, and still make complete sense, instead, they help to give further meaning to the main/independent clause. In this case "Because he ran", is not a complete thought on its own, as it leads to asking the question "so what?"

Independent/main clauses can stand alone and still make sense. In this example "he was able to catch the bus" can stand alone and still make sense.

Your English teacher indicates that she students should not use the word "stuff or "thing in their essays What is the best way t
kupik [55]
I used to have a teacher who said this as well. The best way to understand would be to show examples of how to specify such terms as “stuff” and “things”. For instance: “The birds have lots of stuff.” That was not clear because the reader does not know what the “stuff” is. Instead, the text could be changed to: “The birds have lots of feathers.” Now the reader knows what the stuff is because it has been replaced with a more specific word. If you go over multiple examples in your head, it will become easier to comprehend and you will get used to doing it.
