The Process 1 is depicting a divergent plate boundary. This means that the two plates are moving away from each other. As they move away they leave a gap between them. Through that gap, the magma from the mantle is able to rise easily to the ocean floor. As the magma reaches the ocean floor it cools off and creates new crust. As the process continues, the magma piles up more and more new crust, thus creating a mid-ocean ridge.

The Process 2 is depicting a transform plate boundary. In this type of boundary, the plates are sliding past each other. While sliding past each other, the plates create a lot of stress around the boundary, resulting in cracks in the crust. These cracks are called faults, and they are parallel to the plate boundary.
