<span>'The major effect of the Awakening was a rebellion against authoritarian religious rule which spilled over into other areas of colonial life. Amidst the growing population of the colonies within the 18th Century and mass public gatherings, charismatic personalities such as Whitefield and Tennent rolled through to deliver their messages. Though a religious movement, the Awakening had repercussions in cultural and political spheres as well. Customs of civility and courtesy, the governing norms of life in the colonies, were set aside in favor of a more quarrelsome age. Practices and mind-sets were changed by the Awakening like never before."</span>

how did john locke influence the writers of the french declaration of the rights of man and of the citizen
Setler79 [48]

I'm pretty sure John Locke is the one who believed every man had the right to land, liberty, and property, which was and is a big deal because of social classes. The French regime had 3

social classes and Lockes ideas lead to an uprising by the working class. The lower class paid about 90-97% of the taxes, was the majority of the population, and received the least amount of money. Whereas the clergy and nobility paid next to nothing because they were "friends" with Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI (i think its the 16 or 15). Basically the lower class was treated poorly and Locke's ideas were appealing.
