The square root of two is irrational. It means that you can't write it as a fraction:

\sqrt{2} \neq \cfrac{p}{q}\quad\forall p \in \mathbb{Z},\ q \in \mathbb{Z}\setminus\{0\}

Here's a proof. Assume that you could write

\sqrt{2} = \cfrac{p}{q}

for some integers p and q, and that p and q have no common divisors. If you square both sides you have

2 = \cfrac{p^2}{q^2} \implies p^2 = 2q^2

So, p^2 is even, which means that also p is even, and thus there exists some number k such that p = 2k. The expression becomes

p^2 = 2q^2 \implies 4k^2 = 2q^2 \iff q^2 = 2k^2

So, also q^2 is even, and thus q is also even.

But then, p and q are both even, whereas we assumed that they had no common divisors. Contraddiction.

As for the value, any calculator will give you an approximation that starts with

\sqrt{2} = 1.4142\ldots

so, it is best approximated by 1.4.

Answer: Choice B) Investment decreases by 3% each month

=====================================================

Explanation:

We won't use the value 2500 at all.

The base of the exponential is 0.97

Set this equal to 1+r and solve for r

1+r = 0.97

r = 0.97-1

r = -0.03

The negative r value indicates we have exponential decay, so the value of the investment decreases by 3% each month.

Let's say you had $100 to start off. This would mean the investment would be worth $97 after one month is up.

Explain why please and make sure it is in full detail
Marysya12 [62]

Step-by-step explanation:

well,

(y - 7)² = (y - 7)(y - 7)

remember how to multiply 2 expressions ?

you have to multiply every term of one expression with every term of the other expression and sum the results all up (incl. considering their individual signs, of course).

so, when we do the multiplication, we get

(y - 7)(y - 7) = y×y - 7×y - 7×y + (-7)×(-7) =

= y² - 14y + 49

and that is clearly different to y² - 49

FYI

y² - 49 is the result of

(y - 7)(y + 7)

because

y×y + 7×y - 7×y + (-7)(7) = y² - 49
