Read the excerpt from "Raymond's Run." So they just stand there and Gretchen shifts from one leg to the other and so do they. Th

en Gretchen puts her hands on her hips and is about to say something with her freckle-face self but doesn't. Then she walks around me looking me up and down but keeps walking up Broadway, and her sidekicks follow her. Based on this excerpt, what conclusion can the reader make about the girls?

Based on this excerpt the reader can conclude that the two girls are not friends. They seem to be in conflict with each other. Gretchen's body language, "hand on her hips", and her actions, "looking me up and down", show that Gretchen is sizing up her opponent. However, Gretchen also seems a little hesitant to engage the speaker because she does not say anything. The speaker also does not engage with Gretchen, instead letting Gretchen circle around her. There does not seem to be hatred between the girls, but they certainly are not warm and fuzzy.

Which two lines of text in this excerpt from William Dean Howells's "Editha" demonstrate the author’s opposition to conventional
Veseljchak [2.6K]

Answer:

The two lines that demonstrate the author’s opposition to conventional ideas of patriotism are:-

1. You just expected him to kill someone else, some of those foreigners, that weren't there because they had any say about it, but because they had to be there, poor wretches—conscripts, or whatever they call 'em".

2. I thank my God he didn't live to do it! I thank my God they killed him first, and that he ain't livin' with their blood on his hands!

Explanation:

'Editha' by 'William Dean Howells ' is a story based on war, media and patriotism. It is set during the Spanish - American war times and brings out different perspectives and opinions about the characters in the story.

Editha encouraged her fiance George Gearson to get himself enlisted in the Spanish-American War.

The two mentioned lines are a demonstration of author's strong opposition to the traditional ways of showing patriotism. One shows empathy towards the poor and towards the foreigners who were likely to be killed and they couldn't do anything about it.

Who is Ed Dwight? What obstacles did he face during his career in NASA? How does he change or inspire people today?
Snowcat [4.5K]

Answer:

Dwight faced zero obstacles at NASA because he was never there, the story that he was selected as an astronaut and then blackballed is a modern myth without any reality. NASA never picked him,  based on non-racial reasons such as his test pilot class standing, on his expressed attitude that pilot skill wasn't important because he expected  the capsules to be entirely remote controlled from Earth, and on him being several inches too short to see out the window and safely fly the Apollo Lunar Module anyway, it had nothing to do with his skin color.

Explanation: Some stories are created and spread for political reasons, not for accuracy.
