The photic zone is the first zone from the top of the freshwater body of water. It is the shallowest part of the body of water, and it is further divided into the littoral zone and limnetic zone. This zone is the closest to the shore. The sunlight manages to penetrate in it, so it is a zone where the majority of the producers are able to survive and thrive because they can perform the process of photosynthesis. Since this zone enables the producers to thrive, and the producers are the basis of any ecosystem, it enables the further existence, high diversification, and thriving of all the other living organisms in the freshwater biome.
