1. Though Edward Abbey's purpose in writing "The Dam nation of a Canyon" is to prove damming the Colorado River at the Glen Cany

on has harmed the river and its surrounding environment, he also presents details that can be seen as evidence that the dam improved the area. Use details from the article to argue that the Glen Canyon area is a better place because of the dam.

Well the place is better because of the dam because it provides us with fresh clean water and it provides fresh clean water to the cities downstreams, plus power and electricity. however he says it harms the wildlife like for example the rare fish and animals plus the scenery. hope this helps!

Which type of punctuation signals the reader that words from a direct quotation have been changed by the writer?
Alex777 [14]
Brackets. in quotes, square brackets show that the writer changed the original source. you might use them to change an ambiguous pronoun (such as "he" or "they") to a specific person or group (such as "abraham lincoln" or "school teachers"). they're also used to modify the phrasing of the original source to fit your sentence, such as changing a verb from from present tense to past tense.

Without the things that are necessary or desirable for life.
fgiga [73]

Answer:

Explanation:

So, if we can define each word it will make it easier. Desolate refers to being in a state of emptiness. Rigorous refers to or could be being accurate (cross that one out). Omen is a good or bad event. Devoid is lacking something (lacking emotion or lacking a voice). So my answer is desolate because it involves nothing, or just being empty (not necessary).

What is one benefit of giving an argumentative speech as opposed to publishing an argumentative essay?
vladimir1956 [14]
Speech allows you to connect with the audience and really get your point across. your voice could inflict a heavier meaning on certain areas of the subject being discussed. essays are more impersonal and usually contain dry text. Eye contact in speeches and an assertive voice will have your audience's  attention.
