The United States is divided into four main regions by the U.S. Census Bureau for population registration purposes: the Northeast, Midwest, South and West. Each region is broken down into two or more subregions. These U.S. regions have different cultures and language dialects than other regions in the country. Since the inception of the United States, the regions' names have changed due to the expansion of the U.S. borders.
