When taking notes for a paper, the information that the writer should record about every source is the author's name, the title of the article or book title of journal (if the source is an article), URL or DOI (if it's an online source) and date of publication.

The APA Citation Guide is the citation style that is most commonly used by authors when they are writing a paper. APA offers information regarding how to cite short quotations as well as long quotations and how should a complete reference appear in the reference list at the end of the paper. Citation styles can help the writer to organize the information taken from other sources in a more clear way by adding the name of the author, the date of publication, the title of the article and the URL when it is necessary. Moreover, citation styles also allow the reader to find information that is important in an easier way.

Author's name, Title of Article or Book, Title of Journal, Publisher, Page Number(s), URL or DOI, Date of Publication

So basically everything except the ISBN number. When taking notes, it is important to write down all of the information you will need for the in-text citations and the works cited page. This will keep you from having to revisit the source to get the information later and save you a great deal of time. In-text citations often require the page number where the information was found if it was from a print source.
