Well, they believed in Greek mythology which gave light to the unexplainable from things such as certain religious rituals or even to why the sun comes up in the morning and the moon replaces it at night. The Greeks envisioned the gods in their own way and many of the myths were changed to help represent each person's views/variation. The gods were worshipped and believed to have an influence in every day human life.
