The purpose for Michael Rutledge writing about his great-great -grandfather's experiences in Samuel's Memory is to <u>remind people of the suffering American Indians endured on the Trail of Tears</u>.

In Samuel's Memory the author tells the story of his great-great grandfather, a then 9 year-old boy called Samuel Cloud and his experience on the Trail of Tears. His purpose to tell this story is  to remind people of the suffering American Indians endured on the Trail of Tears.
